India – a Global resource for Perfumery Ingredients

India is a country with a rich heritage and a vibrant, dynamic Fragrance industry. Its wealth of natural resources makes many perfumery ingredients of natural origin accessible to Indian producers. The country is already a world leader in mint oils, spices etc.

In addition to the natural resources, India is rich in human resources. This resource is of great value in the knowledge driven fragrance and flavor industry. Indian manufacturers have made important strides on the global stage. To date, most successes have been driven by the availability of specific processes in house. This factor has given manufacturers a unique advantage – a classic example is the application of hydrogenation know-how from vegetable oil processing to the manufacture of aroma chemicals. Several bulk aroma chemicals are now being made on global scales in India.

In the recent past, significantly different business models have emerged in the aroma ingredient industry, driven equally by regulations and cost structures in developed countries as well as the strong chemistry and managerial capabilities available in India.

The presentation will briefly look at success stories and the factors behind them, followed by a discussion on the emerging business models in the aroma ingredients sector.
